Winvic off to a strong start in Lincolnshire

25/01/2024 | CHRIS AMES

Contractor Winvic Construction has completed the first major project under its highways framework contract with Lincolnshire County Council.

The company has expanded Boston’s A16/Marsh Lane roundabout to 27 metres and widened the approaches on the A16 to two lanes.

To facilitate the widening, the roundabout has also been realigned and 410 metres of new drainage has been installed as part of the upgrade.

Winvic also completed mass traffic signals infrastructure works at the crossroad junction, comprising 4,025 square metres of carriageway treatment works.

In a separate scheme, a three-quarter mile active travel route with widened pavements and a new cycle lane has been created in Boston to address the conflict between cycle users and HGVs on Marsh Lane through the Riverside Industrial Estate.

Both projects are funded by a portion of the £20m in ‘Levelling Up’ funding awarded to the county council in October 2021. When work began last year, they were said to be worth a total of £5.7m.

Rob Cook, director of civils and infrastructure at Winvic, said: ‘Collaboration was a key ingredient in ensuring we balanced a swift programme of works with workforce and public safety and consideration to nearby communities, businesses and road users.’

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways at LCC, said: ‘After six months of hard work by the project team, I’m incredibly happy to announce that our improvements to the A16/Marsh Lane roundabout are now complete and that the roundabout is fully re-opened.

‘The goal of this important Levelling Up project was to reduce congestion on the A16, improve safety and future-proof the roundabout for future A16 upgrades down the line.

‘And now that we’ve added an additional northbound lane and a dedicated left-turn lane for those travelling south from Marsh Lane onto the A16, I think we will accomplish this.’

The remaining Levelling Up funding is being used across three other projects.

The Highways Framework ‘General Works’ Lot was awarded to Winvic by Lincolnshire County Council in April 2022.
