VolkerHighways has won a £1m street lighting contract with Dover District Council to convert stock to LEDs.
The work, which has already begun and will continue until February 2020, covers the replacement of more than 2,500 traditional street light lanterns.
The council has projected a 70% energy saving as a result of installing the new LED lanterns.
Roughly 1,980 of the lanterns will be fitted to standard, functional street lighting columns, while around 72 will be specially housed within more ornate fittings to retain their ‘heritage’ aesthetic.
VolkerHighways will also replace 200 of the district’s existing street lighting columns and re-connect them to the network.
