The Government plans to publish new cycle infrastructure design guidance this summer, which must be followed 'for all cycling schemes supported by Government funding'.
Transport minister Chris Heaton-Harris made the announcement in response to a parliamentary question from the co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Cycling and Walking, Ruth Cadbury MP.
Ms Cadbury asked when the Department for Transport plans to publish an updated version of its guidance, Cycle infrastructure design (LTN 2/08).
Mr Heaton-Harris said: 'The Government intends to publish the updated version of the Department’s cycle infrastructure design guidance in the summer, and will make clear its expectation that the guidance must be followed for all cycling schemes supported by Government funding.'
The news comes after the Government have made a concerted effort to encourage long-term modal shift towards cycling as a result of the lockdown and social distancing restrictions.
It has made a series of funding allocation announcements towards cycling infrastructure amounting to around £2bn package of funding for cycling and walking over the next five years.
