Welcome to our new look Highways magazine and website. We thought it was worth a little glow-up, seeing as our 90th birthday is around the corner.
As part of those celebrations, we have also been privileged to sign new partnerships this year – with our old friends at the IHE, as well as ITS UK, the RSMA and LCRIG.
We are always striving to be community-critical and we are truly proud to be working with these excellent organisations to bring their voices and ideas to these pages.
Our latest issue (October) also celebrates our 2024 Highways Awards winners – once again testimony to the brilliant innovation and social value in our industry.
Two themes stood out among the prizewinners. Firstly, collaboration was a key ingredient to success. Secondly, they included some of the biggest names in the business, but also smaller outfits demonstrating the quality throughout our supply chain.
While we have never been better at building roads, it is increasingly challenging in this country. Our cover story reflects some of the hurdles National Highways has faced during this roads investment period.
The road investment strategy was meant to bring financial certainty but it has succumbed, at least in part, to some of the stormy political weather that has recently hit the country.
The new government has promised a project of national renewal and this magazine will do its best to hold it to that promise when it comes to infrastructure.
This is important because investing in our economic foundations signifies a belief in the nation and its future. And every year, the Highways Awards reminds us why this industry is such a good bet.
