Surveys to start for £7.3m Bolton resurfacing job

The first stage of a £7.3m project to improve St Peter’s Way in Bolton will start next month.

The road, from the Kearsley Spur to the town centre, will be undergoing an extensive resurfacing scheme next year.

Before this can take place detailed site investigation and surveying of the road needs to be carried out.

To facilitate this safely, St Peter’s Way will close overnight on weekdays, from 8pm to 6am, throughout October. The road will be open at all other times.

The scheme is being funded from a £5.8m government grant, which was awarded to the council after a successful bid. The council will also invest £1.5m into the project.

Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Cllr David Chadwick, said: “St Peter’s Way is a major route and a very important link road to other neighbouring towns.

“The resurfacing is going to be a huge piece of work and to plan how we do it we need to survey the road.

“Unfortunately this will mean overnight closures, which are not ideal and I’d like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

“We would also like to thank motorists, residents and businesses for their patience and co-operation.”
