The Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) has started the search for a new chief executive following Steve Spender announcing his plans to retire.
Advertising the role, the IHE said it was looking for someone with 'a proven track record of inspirational leadership' to champion 'growth, resilience and innovation in the highways field, setting professional standards and shaping the future of the industry'.
The role involves leading the day-to-day operation of the IHE, providing strategic leadership and managing the relationship between the Institute, the Engineering Council and the wider sector.
The candidate should have experience in strategic planning, report writing and the ability to prepare and manage budgets.
Other necessary attributes include experience in public speaking and dealing with the media, and confidence in making and communicating policy decisions in complex environments.
Knowledge of the highways industry, the Engineering Council standards and the workings of a professional membership body are also desirable.
The role involves a 37-hour week, with hybrid working across offices in London and Birmingham. The initial appointment would be a fixed three-year term with the potential for a two-year extension.
The closing date for applications is Friday 26th July 2024.
