Scottish Government leads stellar Cold Comfort Scotland line-up

20/02/2024 |

This April, the Scottish Government will be headlining Cold Comfort Scotland, the country's leading winter service and climate resilience conference.

Head of the Response Team, Resilience Division at the Scottish Government, Morten Christensen, will kick off the programme on 18 April at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel, Falkirk.

Mr Christensen's keynote address will give a strategic overview of resilience in the Scottish transport network.

Registration is now open for the event and is once again completely free for the public sector this year. The conference is fully CPD-accredited and will also feature leading figures from across the public and private sectors.

The National Winter Service Research Group - the lead body representing winter resilience decision-makers and contractors - is also supporting the event and leading a panel debate on the upcoming review of national guidance.

Two of Scotland's leading contractors, Amey and Bear, will both be on the conference agenda.

Nick Russell, network manager at Amey will be discussing his work with PIARC, the World Roads Association, and its 2024-27 Winter Technical Committee Plan.

Alasdair Allen, senior operations manager at BEAR Scotland will be discussing the journey to net zero, including contractual requirements for winter service and recent trials of de-icing salt applications.

Jamie Rae, a senior specialist scientist at the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) will be introducing the cutting-edge PREDICTOR Surface Water Flood Forecasting Tool.

Also on the programme discussing the latest in digital working is Eoghan Hennessy, project manager at Esri, who has worked with Transport Scotland over the last two years to improve how they interact with, visualise, and convey location information.

And Nick Johnson, customer success manager at Vaisala will give delegates the latest on the use of innovative technology - including the Internet of Things - in collecting data and carrying out maintenance in challenging areas.

The conference is supported by James Cuthbertson (Cubbys) - designers & manufacturers of winter maintenance equipment.
