The Department for Transport (DfT) has released an overview that explains the measures introduced in the 2016 Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD).
TSRGD 2016 prescribes the designs and conditions of use for traffic signs, (which includes road markings, traffic signals, pedestrian, cycle and equestrian crossings), to be lawfully placed on or near roads in England, Scotland and Wales.
The circular explains the new structure of the regulations, and provides worked examples to help users navigate how the new document works. It highlights what the changes means at practitioner level and provides a clear link from the previous regulations to the new version.
The new TSRGD came into force on 22 April. According to the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE), 50 new signs have been added, there are greater variations for existing ones and some sign lighting requirement relaxations.
