The A18/A180 link road will be used by traffic coming from across Lincolnshire and the UK. It is expected to provide relief to residents, who must currently endure heavy traffic travelling to and from the port through the town centre and residential areas.
Transport Minister Baroness Kramer said: “The £4.9 million government funding will improve access and bring economic and growth opportunities to the Port of Immingham and the local economy. With the port expanding over the coming years, the A18 and the A180 link road will end the existing traffic problems and improve the lives of local people.”
The scheme will provide a new link at the A180 connecting to the B1210.
It comprises:
- Approximately one kilometre of new single carriageway
- A new ‘arm’ to the existing roundabout at the A180 Stallingborough Interchange
- A new three-arm roundabout constructed at the termination point with the B1210
The Department for Transport (DfT) will provide a maximum of £4.911 million towards the full scheme cost of £6.266 million. Work can now start on construction with the project scheduled to be completed in February 2016.
