Milner named as new CEO of Amey

10/02/2016 | HIGHWAYS REPORTERS

Andy Milner has been named as the new chief executive of Amey and will take over from Mel Ewell who is retiring at the end of March.

Following 15 successful years with the business, which included supporting Ferrovial with its purchase of Amey in 2003 as well as Amey’s successful acquisition of Enterprise PLC in 2013, Mel will hand over to Andy Milner on 31 March 2016. In his time as CEO Ewell has grown the business four-fold; from a £600m UK-based company to the Amey of today which employs around 21,000 people and turns over £2.5bn and has international presence and reach.

Milner, a chartered civil engineer, joined Amey in 2006 following the acquisition of Owen Williams. Since being appointed managing director of consulting in 2008, he has grown his business to be one of the leading engineering and technical consultancies in the UK, as well as taking Amey onto three further continents (with contracts in Australia, Qatar and the United States).

Speaking about his decision to retire, Ewell said: “Deciding when to retire is a difficult decision, particularly when you’re enjoying what you’re doing and working at a fantastic company which has become such a big part of your life. That being said I am confident that this is the right thing for me and the business.

“I want to congratulate Andy who will be an outstanding CEO and will oversee the ongoing and future growth of our business. Our focus remains on delivering excellent services for our customers through the transition and beyond.”

Speaking about his appointment to CEO, Milner said: “I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to be CEO of this outstanding company, and wish to thank Mel for the leadership and guidance he has given to me over the last decade. I am inheriting a strong, profitable business that is extremely well placed to help our customers at a time of change in our markets.

“We will continue to deliver a first class service, ensuring we get the job done for our customers as we have committed, safely and efficiently.”
