Milestone Infrastructure has started work on a new £13.5m contract to maintain and deliver street lighting across Gloucestershire on behalf of the county council.
The contract commenced last month and will continue for five and a half years, with the option to be extended for 10 years.
Milestone, which is part of M Group Services’ Transport Division, will be responsible for maintaining over 62,000 streetlights and 8,000 illuminated signs and bollards on the county’s highway network.
Works will include dealing with lighting outages, annual cyclical maintenance and an annual programme of streetlighting replacements for expired equipment.
Milestone said the deal builds on its nine-year relationship with Gloucestershire to maintain existing equipment and deliver an LED replacement project.
It said this has resulted in a more reliable service, reducing lighting outages by 50% and cutting energy consumption and carbon emissions by up to 70%.
The firm's business director for street lighting, Simon Woodford, said: ‘I’m extremely proud to continue our partnership with Gloucestershire County Council to deliver this key service across the county.
‘Our teams are ready 24/7, 365 days a year to attend faults and emergencies, keeping the county in light, reducing carbon emissions and protecting the communities in which we work.’
Dom Morris, the council’s cabinet member for highways and flooding, said: ‘We look forward to working with Milestone over the next five and a half years to create smoother and brighter journeys for everyone in Gloucestershire.’
Milestone said that throughout the framework it will continue to work with the council in its shared commitment to reach their carbon strategy aspirations.
The firm has committed to reaching net zero across all its operations, including its supply chain, by 2040.
