The Mott MacDonald Grontmij joint venture (MMG JV) will carry out a technical assurance role for the A160/A180 Port of Immingham improvement scheme near Grimsby.
The project is being developed by the Highways Agency as part of the national strategic road network improvement strategy. One of the four schemes chosen for progression under the accelerated delivery programme, it aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve journey time reliability, increase safety and improve local severance issues.
Works include the upgrade of the three-mile A160 single carriageway to a dual carriageway, junction enhancements and the construction of a new link road and gyratory system and new bridges. The award will see the MMG JV working closely with the HA to support the scheme through to the development phase towards construction, with the possibility of providing support throughout the construction and handover phase.
Stephen Russell, MMG JV director, said: “This award builds on the recent successful work the MMG JV has delivered on the A63 Castle Street improvement and the A453 widening projects. The A160/A180 is an important scheme which will improve access to the Port of Immingham and generate positive local community and safety benefits. It will also act as a catalyst to open up regeneration and business in the area.
“Our focus will be to work collaboratively with Costain and their partners to deliver an efficient and innovative integrated design and apply lean practices which will deliver added-value to the Highways Agency. We look forward to delivering this project through the development stage and ultimately through to the road opening stage, which is currently planned for 2016.”
