Highways Heroes: Keyline rally hits the heights

02/08/2019 | CHRIS AMES

A classic car continental adventure led by civils specialist builders merchants Keyline in aid of Prostate Cancer UK has raised nearly £120,000 in a year as it reached its 10-year milestone

The Keyline Rally saw teams taking part in challenges along the way, all documented with photographic evidence. Points were totalled up on the last day to determine the winner.

The winning team was announced as the ‘Family Guys’, which consisted both Keyline employees and suppliers.

But, more importantly, this year’s event raised a (hundred and twenty) grand total of £119,658.

It wasn’t all fun and games along the way though, as newbies to the rally and customers of Keyline, Conlon, had to end their trip on the second day. Having reached St Dizier leg of the journey, the team suffered an unfortunate hose burst, meaning a premature end and flight home.

Keyline highlighted the importance of the charity to a construction industry that has a predominantly male workforce.

Managing director Paul Beaman said: ‘Keyline want to personally thank everyone who took part in the rally in some way. Without all of the participants and the many sponsors, none of this would have been possible. Each year builds further awareness of prostate cancer, brings more people together and raises much-needed funding for such a great cause!’

Bateman Groundworks managing director Jason Ramsey said: ‘This is the fourth year we have taken part in the Keyline rally for Prostate Cancer UK, a charitable cause that is perfectly aligned to our workforce.

‘The rally is a well-organised and entertaining and we love meeting likeminded people – even when dressed as Mr Potato Head and Rex from Toy Story!’

He added: ‘The itinerary is always impressive, but this year's standout moment was driving the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, along the Stelvio Pass, taking in the breath-taking scenery of France, Italy and Switzerland, offering a moment of reflection and gratitude as well as raising awareness along the way.’
