Highways England held an Innovation Day this week, demonstrating some of the transformational technology making a difference on the strategic road network.
Concentrating on Area 9, the event was hosted by the area's contractor Kier, and showcased investments made under Highways England's dedicated innovation fund.
Technology on display included a huge impact protection vehicle that can protect workers from impacts from the rear and the side.
Innovative techniques for quick patch and mends of the road surface and solar powered technology was also unveiled.
Head of innovation at Highways England, Annette Pass, posted on social media: 'Fantastic day out yesterday at Kier’s Innovation Day, showcasing innovations in Highways England’s Area 9. Great to see our Innovation Designated Fund being put to good use.'
