Bedford Borough Council has awarded a five-year highways contract worth a total of £30m to Heidelberg Materials UK.
The company has been the borough’s main highways contractor since 2013. The new contract will start this month and covers all aspects of highway maintenance and improvement throughout Bedford, including footway and carriageway resurfacing, kerb and ironwork replacement, minor bridge repairs and drainage clearance.
Major contracts and delivery team leader at Bedford Borough Council, Dave Bennett, said: ‘We are delighted to renew our contract with Heidelberg Materials and we are looking forward to continuing a safe and successful collaborative contract.’
Heidelberg said that it will continue to work with its ‘trusted local supply chain’ to ensure the safe, sustainable and efficient delivery of all work.
Heidelberg’s contracting managing director, Scott Cooper, added: ‘This is great news and demonstrates the success of the relationship we have built with Bedford Borough Council over the last few years.
‘It signals the next step in our collaborative working arrangement to deliver high quality schemes that meet the council’s efficiency and sustainability targets and improve local roads for residents.’
