Local highway authorities and their providers are being invited to share best practice through the Highways Maintenance Efficiency Programme (HMEP).
The invitation from HMEP follows the recent announcement by the Department for Transport (DfT) of the 2014 pothole repair fund allocations for local authorities within England where councils submitted bids for a share of a £168 million pothole fund to repair local roads by showing a track record of best practice or proposals for innovative solutions.
Geoff Allister, HMEP board member and executive director of the Highways Term Maintenance Association (HTMA), said: “It is encouraging to see the many innovative solutions already being adopted by local highway authorities to transform roads and services so the available money can be efficiently spent and make a positive impact.
“HMEP is focusing on creating an eco-system of support through clients and their providers, and to encourage people at all levels to collaborate, connect and share their practices, experiences and knowledge to further build capacity within the sector.”
Organisations interested in downloading a range of existing practices and sharing new ones or wishing to connect via HMEP advocates and contact existing alliances and organisations in their area can do so through the recently launched connect and share section of the HMEP website.
