Derbyshire County Council’s gritting team was unable to access a road near a popular hiking spot at the weekend because of visitors’ parking.
The local authority took to X on Saturday to explain it was facing issues caused by ‘around 200 cars’ parked on both sides of the road at Rushup Edge and Mam Nick near Edale.
The post said: ‘Please move your car if you are in the area. If we can't get through neither would a bus or fire engine. Thanks.’
In a statement, the council added: ‘We realise that people want to enjoy the Peak District, but this level of parking is making the gritters’ job very difficult.’
It came after a week of disruption caused by freezing temperatures and snowfall in north Derbyshire, with several roads closed across the region.
In an update on Monday, the council said Winnats Pass and Rushup Edge at Sparrowpit End were now open after Derbyshire Police dealt with earlier parking issues, with many cars given tickets or towed away.
