Galliford Try has appointed two former Carillion senior managers as it drives for growth with a focus on its highways business.
Duncan Elliott (pictured above) joins Galliford Try as managing director of the highways business unit within its infrastructure division.
He previously headed up strategic highways with Carillion for nine years. His experience also includes 16 years in various roles with Alfred McAlpine, which Carillion acquired in 2008, up to and including operations director level.
A fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Mr Elliott will be responsible for Galliford Try’s work with Highways England and local authorities as well as its highways maintenance business.
Nick Salt, managing director of Galliford Try Infrastructure, said: ‘Duncan’s appointment is a key element in our drive for growth and the lead role that highways will play in it.
‘We’re in a position to provide a focus and resource to our clients that can’t be matched by some of our competitors who are committed to major programmes such as HS2.’
Galliford Try has also appointed David Bates (right) as commercial director for highways. He also joins from Carillion, where he held a similar role.
As a Collaborative Delivery Framework contractor for Highways England, Galliford Try is currently engaged in the smart motorways programme on the M1 in joint venture with Costain.
The firms has also recently started work for Highways England on a £24m contract to build a new junction on the M49 near Bristol and is progressing the Lincoln Eastern bypass under the Midlands Highways Alliance.
