Road safety campaign group 20’s Plenty for Us has called on local authorities to ask ministers for a change in signage rules.
At the fourth 20mph Places conference delegates heard the case for only requiring repeater signs on 30mph limits and above.
Repeater signs are small signs that remind motorists of issues such as local speed limits. The group argues that they should only be required for 30mph limits and above. It claims this would “save millions of pounds, clutter and red-tape.”
The group has produced a template letter so that people can write to local transport minister Norman Baker about the issue.
