Galliford Try Highways is carrying out complex highway works for a housing development in Warwickshire.
The works fall under Section 278 of the Highways Act 1980, which allows a developer to carry out works to the public highway.
The scheme in Kenilworth involves creating access for a 93-house plot from Common Lane, which spans both the Coventry to Leamington railway line and a footway.
Large prefabricated rebar cages for the new retaining wall are lifted into position
Tightly sandwiched between the two, the new road will run along the top of the existing railway cutting, the edge of which is being strengthened by construction of a reinforced concrete wall on mini-pile foundations.
Significant temporary works include a combination of soil nailing and an anchored combi-pile wall.
In addition, the existing road and footway infrastructure on Common Lane are being realigned and new infrastructure for signals and streetlighting installed.
The scheme for Warwickshire County Council is due to complete early next year. The value of the contract is £2.1m.
